IMA Lunch Meeting September 15, 2016

IMA Savannah is fortunate to have Steve Richards, Consultant, to speak to us about Benchmarking Key Performance Indicators on Thursday September 15, at noon, at Savannah Coffee Roasters.

This second of our speakers this year is also the second highly interesting topic for our edification - KPIs are critical to our companies' successes. Bring a friend!

 Presentation Summary:

Steve has developed industry benchmarks for four agricultural industries and is currently working on three non-agricultural industries.  Steve’s presentation will discuss data collection from individual firms as well as aggregate data analyses and benchmark comparisons.  Participants will learn ways to discover unique performance indicators for almost any industry and how to use these indicators to help owners and managers make meaningful changes to their businesses.

IMA Meeting March 2017

posted Feb 23, 2017, 1:14 PM by IMA Savannah

Good morning good Savannah IMA community and friends.

We are hoping that you have made your reservation to hear "Tipper A" Roomy Khan speak to us on March 2. If you haven't yet, then please take time out today to make your reservation at https://www.armstrong.edu/armstrong/eventdetail/iia-ima-joint-meeting .

Your attending talks such as this keep our community informed, improved, and working together. Your support of the speakers we bring in is greatly appreciated by the speakers as they seek to get their message to the accounting community.

And, I realize that it is a busy time for all of us. I am sure that the two hours at this event and the good lunch will be a great break from your month-ends and related work. Plan to attend and plan this very welcome diversion for your schedule! You will thank yourself afterward, I am sure.

As noted previously, we will be able to have a bite to eat with our fellow Savannah IMA members (we always have a great time!), Savannah IIA, Savannah GSCPA, and other accounting and other professional community members in an informal setting with a great speaker to boot.

So, please take advantage of this opportunity and set your calendar for 11.30 am March 2.

To remind us all, we thank Georgia Southern University's School of Accountancy and their Center for Forensic Studies in Accounting for their work in bringing Ms. Khan to the community. She is speaking to some other groups in Savannah and Statesboro so we are lucky to have her make time for us.

Ms. Khan will provide us with a two CPE-hour presentation on Thursday, March 2, at Armstrong State University. The specific room is Ballroom A in The Armstrong Center. Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. and the presentation will begin at noon. There is plenty of easy parking.

Ms. Khan's introduction:

My name is Roomy Khan, and I was involved in Operation Perfect Hedge, which led to the indictment and conviction of over 90 individuals connected to the hedge fund industry. I aided the investigation and was known as “Tipper A.” After seven years of undercover cooperation, I was sentenced to 1 year in a Federal Prison, which I served in Colman Florida.

My story was profiled on CBS’s 60 minutes, “A rare look at how insider trading works” and there has been extensive coverage by numerous media outlets including the New York Times.

Title: Throughput Accounting: A Maverick approach to making decisions

Throughput Accounting was developed by Dr. Eli Goldratt, the father of the Theory of Constraints

Throughput Accounting is a more robust solution to support decision making than conventional cost accounting systems

Throughput Accounting is simple on the surface but provides profound and often times counter intuitive answers when compared to traditional cost accounting and also ABC.

Almost all cost accountants will admit there are significant flaws in cost accounting, but they do not know what the solution to those problems should look like. TA is that answer.
